Description

The common way to convert a VW Beetle or Karmann Ghia from 1966 onwards to a standard disc brake has always been to use standard disc brake spindles, as they were still available in original quality until a few years ago.
After these high-quality spindles were no longer available, we searched for a solution that would allow the existing drum brake spindles to be used for a standard disc brake.

With this drum spindle to disc brake conversion kit, CSP Products now offers a bolt-on disc brake conversion with parts certificate that allows a disc brake system to be fitted to a car with drum brakes without replacing the original spindles.
Simply remove the drum brake and bolt-on the forged CSP Products caliper brackets to the drum brake attachment points of the spindle. This solution has the advantage that the spindles does not have to be removed for the disc brake conversion. Further more, no expensive special tools are needed for the conversion. Another bonus is that the otherwise obligatory wheel alignment is not needed, since the original axle geometry is kept same. A reconversion to the original drum brake is also possible at any time if required.
Now the calipers and discs of a standard disc brake or all custom brakes with PCD 4x100 to 5x130, which are designed for use on original disc brake spindles (e.g. KERSCHER vented), can be fitted to the drum brake spindles. Brake discs, wheel bearings and calipers correspond to the standard parts, so that a reliable supply of spare parts is guaranteed. Only a special wheel bearing seal is used for Beetle and Karmann Ghia from 1968 (from chassis 118 857 240 --).

The kit includes two caliper brackets, high-strength bolts, lock washers, threadlocker, two brake hoses with mounting clamps as well as wheel bearing seals (from 1968-) and a parts certificate.
The standard drum brake including backing plates must be removed for installation. It is not possible to install dust protection plates.

Make sure that you use a master cylinder without pressure valves that is designed for use on a disc brake system.
