According to the tech dept. at KYB: The KYB-344045 shock requires a bushing kit to be purchased along with each shock (see number # KYB-KIT-107). KYB have never made a rear GR-2 gas shock specifically for the VW Bus. The KYB-344045 shock was originally designed for another fitment. The KYB-344045 shock has the correct length and dampening rate for a VW Van or Bus. This shock DOES NOT come with the pressed in sleeve bushing. KYB sleeve kit # KYB-KIT-107 is required to complete the installation of this shock to your VW Van or Bus. This kit comes with an assortment of bushings, only one pair is needed. The bushings then need to be pressed into the GR-2 shock to work properly on the VW van.
The KG5530 gas-a-just shock was specifically built for the rear of the VW van. Therefore, it contains metal sleeves that are already pressed into the eyelets top and bottom. The sleeve is the correct size for the VW van. This may be your best choice for the easiest installation.
